My child is currently in mainstream with 1:1 support, will this continue if they are given a space in the Woodland Centre?

The Centre provides high levels of staffing, and therefore it is not expected that a child will receive additional 1:1 support on top of their Centre funding. There is generally a 1:2 ratio at Early Years and KS1, and 1:4 at KS2. They often work in small groups throughout the day, providing various interventions, so their level of support may vary. This will be dependent on provisions identified in Section F of your child's EHCP.

My child has intervention from a Speech and Language Therapist, would this continue?

All provisions from Section F of your child's EHCP are put in to place, wherever possible, including Speech and Language intervention. Although we have a Speech and Language Therapist and Therapy Assistant that work in school over 4 days, it is rare for children to have 1:1 therapy sessions, unless specifically identified in their EHCP. The provision aims to build social communication skills and generalise their language skills learnt in intervention groups.  Each child's speech and language targets will be embedded across the curriculum. The highly trained support staff are trained by and work very closely with the Speech and Language team to ensure the quality of this provision.

How much time will my child spend in their mainstream buddy class?

We do not set a specific minimum amount as this will vary per child although, as a mainstream provision, there is an expectation that children will access some mainstream sessions throughout their school week. For some children, this may be play times, lunch times and PE twice a week or, for others, it might be most of their day, returning to the Centre later in the afternoon for their specialist intervention. This is decided on a child-by-child basis. If a child is not able to access learning within the mainstream classroom, they may require a specialist school placement.

What trips will my child have access to?

If your child accesses their mainstream buddy class for their topic (Cornerstones), they are likely to access trips with their mainstream class. If they are accessing their topic within the Centre, they will access the trips for this topic. All children to be included in activities linked to their own learning journey.
